🇩🇿 Alger

For this March 8th, a feminist sit-in in solidarity with Palestinian women is scheduled in Algiers at 10:00. The location will be announced last minute for security reasons. Please note that all forms of public demonstrations are prohibited in Algeria.

🇲🇦 Casablanca

In Morocco, the Hiya (She) movement is organizing a sit-in on March 8 at 5:30 PM at Mohamed V Square in Casablanca. They are calling for a reform of the moudawana (family law) for equal rights between men and women. The sit-in will be—independently—followed by a vigil in honor of Palestinian women. The Hiya movement was initiated by the associations Kif Mama Kif Baba, ADFM, and Médias & cultures, as well as by several committed citizen cyber-activists.

🇭🇷 Croatia

Zagreb: Everyone is invited to the Square of the Victims of Fascism at 6:00 PM. Eight years ago, women gathered to form the initiative named “Take the responsibility for murders of women,” which organized the first night march in the Croatian capital of Zagreb. Around 700 people took part in the march. Soon after, the collective fAKTIV was established and took on the role of organizer. These night marches have become tradition and have spread to other cities across Croatia, bringing together over 7,000 people marching for women every year.

More information here.

Split: Split residents are invited to Trg Gaje Bulata at 6:00 PM to march for peace, equality, and freedom against social injustice and the brutal violation of women’s human rights. The march is organized by the NGO Domine, whose slogan is Women of Split for the women of the world.

More information here.

Rijeka: The night march will take place in Konto and start at 6:00 PM. Women will gather under the slogan “Be free.”

More information here.

Osijek: This year’s night march will start at Ante Starčević Square at 6:30 PM. Women will march under the slogan “A woman with a voice.”

More information here.

🇸🇾 Damascus

“For our day we sing,” a concert held at the Arab Center for Radio and Television Training in Damascus at 6:00 PM, organized by the Taa Mabsouta Association in cooperation with the humanitarian SHEILD Association. This concert pays tribute to the women who are in constant struggle against the tyranny of society, law, and life. This March 8, let us all sing together against injustice, for the women of the world.

🇹🇷 Istanbul

On March 8, thousands of women will gather for feminist night marches in Turkey. These night marches started in 2003, with the participation of around 100 women back then. The Istanbul Feminist Night March has since become one of the most attended and lively annual demonstrations, despite pressure, bans, and police violence in recent years. After the 2013 Gezi Park protests, opportunities for social opposition gradually became more and more limited, and feminist night marches are also being targeted by the authorities. Organizers say that police first intervened in 2014, during the first march after the Gezi Resistance, and the march was not allowed to reach its final destination of Taksim Square. Since then, the Istanbul governor's office has consistently banned the march at the last minute, and women who defied the ban have faced violence and been detained by police. Still, this year's Istanbul Feminist Night March is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM local time, at Taksim Square.

🇫🇷 Lyon

On Wednesday, March 6 at 6:00 PM, Maranne Thivend, teacher-researcher at the Université Lumière Lyon 2, is giving a conference at the university on “Women involved in Lyon,” as part of the program “A detour though the history of feminism between the 19th and 20th centuries.”

Lyon is also highlighting, from March 4-10, the history of feminism, past and current activist movements, and various feminist initiatives.

🇫🇷 Marseille

On March 8, the city of Marseille will echo the national call for a feminist strike. With processions planned alongside the mobilization of numerous collectives, a Feminist Occupation Zone (FOZ) will take shape in the Old Port from 2 PM to 5 PM. An ephemeral territory that aims to occupy public space and thus give visibility to intersectional feminist struggles. The FOZ will thus be run by several collectives and solidarity associations and activists who will structure its activity around debates and political exchanges across different stands.

🇫🇷 Paris

Solidarité Femmes (FNSF) will be mobilized against sexist and sexual violence alongside feminist associations and collectives on the occasion of IWD. FNSF is a signatory of the call for demonstrations launched by the #Grèveféministe (#feministstrike).

Meet at 2:00 PM in front of the town hall of the 20th arrondissement in Paris. Also join us throughout France in your departments! All local mobilizations can be found on the #Grèveféministe website.

🇮🇹 Rome

The feminist movement Non Una Di Meno (Not One [Woman] Less) emerged on the Italian political scene on November 25, 2015, when it organized the first major demonstration against violence against women. It has announced a “Feminist Strike” for March 8, 2024, for the eighth consecutive year. All women and their allies are invited to refrain from paid work, domestic/reproductive work, and any form of consumption to protest against the capitalist economic model of society which effectively relies on the invisible labor and exploitation of millions of women within their families and homes.

The feminist and lesbian memory of the streets – Friday, March 8, 2024, 4:00 PM | Rome

This Friday March 8th, at 4:00 PM, a feminist march will be held between Campitelli and Trastevere. This new event in the “Rainbow Breadcrumbs” cycle is offered by the Ottavo Colle association, in partnership with Casa Internazionale delle Donne in Rome and the EDGE association. The route consists of an urban walk through symbolic sites of the feminist and lesbian movement in Rome, such as the Palazzo Nardini in the Campitelli district, Via del Governo Vecchio, which housed the first women’s center in the capital, and the Campo de' Fiori where, on March 8, 1972, Mariasilvia Spolato became the first woman in Italian history to come out as gay in public. Other places will also be evoked thanks to the memories and testimonies of the women who wrote the history of the lesbian and feminist movement in Italy. The march will end at the Casa Internazionale delle Donne, in the Trastevere district, with a meeting and an aperitif.

RDV at 4:00 PM: Palazzo Nardini, via del Governo Vecchio 39, Rome

🇹🇳 Tunis

The Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms (IARF) invites the public to attend the presentation of its report entitled Prison, extortion, and threats: The cost of women’s participation in public space. This report sheds light on the violations suffered by women politicians and feminist activists after July 25, 2021.

The seminar will take place at the El Mechtel Hotel in Tunis, starting at 9:00 AM and continuing until 12:00 PM. This meeting will provide an opportunity to learn about the violations and documented testimonies in the report and to interact with the opinions and discussions of activists and defenders of women's rights.
